2016 Local Government Elections

The Mafube Local Municipality comprises of 17 seats. There were 30,882 registered voters in the local municipality for the 2016 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 1 with 62.56 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 7 with 31.97 %. The voter turn-out achieved in the 2016 municipal elections was 53.51 %.

Following the 2016 local government elections, the African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 13 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 2 seats whilst the Economic Freedom Fighters and the Freedom Front Plus holds 1 seat each in the Council.

2011 Local Government Elections

The Mafube Local Municipality has 17 seats. There were 28,798 registered voters in the local municipality for the 2011 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 1 with 65.07 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 6 with 55 %. The average voter turn-out achieved in the 2011 municipal elections was 59.67 %. Following the 2011 municipal elections, five political parties are represented in the municipality. The African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 12 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 3 seats and the Congress of the People holds 2 seats. There are no independent councilors in the municipality.
